2020-2021 - Basketball Update

1. At this point, we do not know what the basketball program will look like in terms of grades offered to, practice times, season beginning/end dates, etc. What we do know is that we are confident the Diocese will offer basketball but it may be limited to certain grades with the priority starting with the higher grades and working it's way down to 4th grade. Our hope is that we will be able to offer 4th-8th grades boys and girls basketball like we have done in the past. Please be patient with us. We will provide details as soon as we know them.

2. We are opening two step registration. Step 1 (No fee registration) will allow us to start forming teams and making preparations. Step 2 will be the final payment registration.
Step 1: No fee registration, open now. Go to and click "Register Now." Pay close attention to the details. This in itself is a 2-step process where you register first on the Diocese website (, then finalize your registration on the St. Brigid webpage. I can't emphasize how much time this saves us from tracking individuals down to complete the process.

Step 2: Once the Diocese confirms that we will have a basketball season and that it is available for your son/daughter's grade, we will send notice to all those who registered under Step 1 to go ahead and complete Step 2. Details for this step will be sent when we send the notification out. Nothing to do right now for this step.

3. Coaches: We Need YOU!! To coach, we need to ensure you meet all Safe Environment Guidelines. The sooner we know you want to coach, the better so we can work to make sure you complete all of the requirements prior to the first practice. When you register your son/daughter during the no fee registration, register yourself as a coach. It will show up as an option as you go through the process.

4. The St. Brigid gym is being used by the school and will not be open to basketball. That means we will not have any home games and no practices at St. Brigid. We have secured time at two off-site facilities to practice in.

5. To help pay for the practice facilities, we are increasing the registration fee to $190 for the 2020-2021 season.

6. We will not turn anybody away for financial hardships or inability to pay. If you would like financial assistance, please out the attached form and mail it to:
Marty Raines
Diocesan Recreation Association
197 E. Gay St.
Columbus, Ohio 43215
Or email it to [email protected]

Marty will keep the details of your application confidential and nobody in the Athletic Association will see any part of the application. After you mail the application, email Tim Long, St. Brigid Athletic Director at [email protected] and state that you have mailed the application to Marty. Tim will verify with Marty that the application has been received. Once the application has been confirmed, you will be provided a coupon code to be used during Step 2 of the registration.

7. During our games, we will need to follow the hosting gyms social distancing, mask, and any other COVID precautions. There will likely be a limit of 2-spectators per player allowed at the games to allow for proper social distancing.

8. We are hoping to be able to offer Lil Hounds Basketball to 2nd and 3rd grade boys and girls but at this time, that is not 100% certain. Details for this program will likely come out sometime in December.

Parent Like a Champion - Required Training for Parents

One parent for every participant in cross country, volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, softball, or track & field must complete Play Like a Champion Today training.  This is a one time training.  If you've taken it in the past, you don't need to take it again.

All head coaches must complete the coach session of Play Like a Champion Today.  This also counts as the parent training, you don't have to complete both.
You can find out more detail here by visiting:  Instructions to attend will be sent out as the date gets closer.  If you plan on being a head coach during the 2020-2021 school year, go ahead and get this training done if you haven't already.
